Summer is finally here, which means you’ve probably got a number of pool days and vacations on the calendar. As busy as we get this time of year, it’s easy to downplay the importance of regular workouts. The reality, though, is that consistent physical activity goes hand-in-hand with weight loss, increased energy, and overall better health.
Here at Fit Results Midland, we want to help you look and feel your best year-round. Here are five tips for staying fit during the summer.
It makes sense why local gyms are more crowded in the fall and winter compared to the spring and summer. Think about it — who wants to go for a run outside when the weather is crummy? Here at Fit Results, we’re constantly reminding members to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air while exercising. That said, it’s a sweltering 96 degrees as we write this post. Beat the Texas heat by scheduling your workouts for either early in the morning or later in the evening.
Play a sport
Who says that your summer workouts have to be limited to running and lifting weights? Remember it’s okay to have fun with your fitness every once in a while! Take part in a pickup basketball game, play soccer at the park with some friends, or have a friendly tennis match with your significant other. Trust us when we say that playing a sport keeps your exercise from feeling like work.
Take a dip
No summer is complete without at least several pool days. But did you know that the pool provides more than just an escape from the heat? If you’re looking to burn fat and build muscle this season, we suggest adding swimming to your fitness program. Those not interested in doing laps should strongly consider trying non-swimming pool exercises as part of their exercise regimen.
Take time to exercise on vacation
Summer vacations are a time to relax and unwind. But just because you’re planning some time away doesn’t mean you’re excused from working out. Maybe you’re thinking, “There’s no way I’m going to the gym during vacation.” And that’s completely okay! Work in physical activity through hikes, runs on the beach, and even long walks while sightseeing.
This is a big one, especially in Midland. Between daily workouts and other activities, your body loses a lot of water during the summer. Make it a point to drink 8-10 glasses a day to combat headaches, lethargy, and irritability, all of which are signs of dehydration. The last thing you want to deal with this season is heat stroke.
